Therapy101 / Films & Docs

About this site

Scope

This is an annotated directory of films, documentaries, series and recorded sessions about therapy. It is for learners who want to see how therapy is portrayed or taught. Each entry gives the facts of the work, says what it shows, and separately comments on how closely that reflects practice. The works are a small selection, not a complete list.

Viewing and dramatisation

Most works about therapy are dramatisations. They compress time, heighten conflict and serve a story, so they are not representative of therapy. Documentaries are shaped by their makers too. Where practice differs between the UK and the US, the entry says so.

Recordings of real sessions

Some works show real clients. These entries describe the recording, its age and what is known about consent, and they do not endorse watching or sharing it. Standards for consent and confidentiality have changed over time and differ between countries.

What this site does not do

It does not diagnose, recommend a treatment, match people with therapists or offer crisis support. It gives no ratings, and it has no streaming or purchase links. It makes no claim that a work is evidence for or against any approach.

If you are in distress, contact a health professional or your local emergency or crisis service.

Review status

This is an unpublished draft. The entries have not yet been reviewed by a qualified subject specialist, and the works have not all been viewed for this draft. Each page says so in its review note.

How sources are checked

A source is listed only after its page was opened and matched to the citation. Each source says what it supports and the date it was checked. Where a source could not be opened, it is marked “Source to be added”. The sources page lists all of them.

Educational draft · Subject review pending

An educational reference. It does not diagnose, recommend treatment, match people with therapists or offer crisis support.
